Write for Us: Guest Post Guidelines
FSO News publishes plain-language guides on investing, mortgages, credit, insurance and the markets. We accept a small number of guest posts from writers who know their subject and can explain it clearly. Please read the guidelines below before you submit an idea.
Who can submit
We welcome submissions from independent writers, financial professionals (for example advisors, accountants, mortgage brokers and insurance professionals) and experienced personal finance bloggers. You should have written about money or business topics elsewhere, and we ask for three links to published examples when you apply. If you work for a company in the industry you cover, you must tell us.
Topics that fit
- Investing basics, registered accounts (TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, 401(k), IRA) and how markets work
- Recent stock market news explained for everyday investors
- Mortgages, refinancing and personal loans
- Credit cards, credit scores and building credit
- Insurance (life, auto, home) and how premiums work
- Taxes and small business finance
We lean toward Canadian readers, with US topics as a secondary focus. Practical "how to" posts and clear comparisons work best.
What we won't publish
- Stock picks, price predictions, "guaranteed returns" or anything that reads as personal investment advice
- Promotional or sponsored content, press releases, or posts written mainly to place links
- Content about crypto promotions, gambling, payday loans, or get-rich-quick schemes
- Anything already published elsewhere, or content produced in bulk by AI tools without real expertise and fact-checking
Length and format
Word count: 800 to 1,500 words. Posts outside this range will be returned for revision. Use a clear title, short paragraphs, and descriptive subheadings. Send the finished post as a Google Doc or in the body of an email when we ask for it. Include a short "key takeaways" list at the top if you can.
Editorial standards
- Original and unpublished. Your post must be your own work and must not appear anywhere else, before or after it runs on FSO News.
- Accurate and sourced. Cite primary sources where you can, such as the Canada Revenue Agency, IRS, central banks, regulators, company filings and lender pages. Date all rates, limits and figures. Do not state something you cannot support.
- Plain language. Write for a smart reader who is new to the topic. Explain jargon the first time you use it.
- No hype and no advice to buy or sell. We explain and inform. Every post carries a not-financial-advice note.
- Disclosures. If you have a financial interest in anything you mention, or any link is an affiliate link, tell us and we will disclose it to readers.
Links and author bio
Guest posts include a short author bio with one link to your website or professional profile. Links in the body should point to useful, authoritative sources, not to your own commercial pages. All outbound links are reviewed, and we may mark some as nofollow or sponsored.
Compensation
Guest posts are unpaid, and we do not charge to publish. In return you receive a byline, a short bio with a link, and exposure to FSO News readers. We do not accept payment for placement.
Editing, rights and timing
We may edit for clarity, accuracy, style and length, and we may change the title. By submitting you confirm the work is yours and give FSO News a permanent, non-exclusive right to publish it on fsonews.com and share it on our social channels. You keep the copyright. We may decline, delay or remove any post at our discretion, and we may correct or update it later if facts change.
We review every submission and reply by email if it is a fit. Please allow up to two weeks. Sending an idea does not guarantee publication.
How to submit
Fill in the form below with your name, email, your topic idea and three links to posts you have written elsewhere. If we like your idea we will reply with next steps.
