Shopify discloses data breach after internal security incident

Canadian online internet eCommerce platform Shopify is working with the FBI and other law enforcement organizations to research a security break brought about by two rouge internal representatives.

The organization said two individuals from its help desk got to and attempted to acquire customer transaction details from Shopify shop owners (merchants).

Shopify assessed the number of stores that may be influenced by the workers’ activities at under 200. The organization flaunted more than 1,000,000 enrolled traders in its most recent quarterly filings.

The online business goliath said the episode isn’t the consequence of a weakness in its security yet the activities of rouge employees.

“We immediately terminated these individuals’ access to our Shopify network and referred the incident to law enforcement,” the company said in a prepared statement. “We are currently working with the FBI and other international agencies in their investigation of these criminal acts.”

The exchange information that the rebel workers may have accessed incorporates essential contact data, for example, email, name, and address.

Shopify said credit card numbers or other sensitive individual or monetary data were excluded from the information the staff members could have gotten to.
